What Is Transitional Living?
Transitional living is an option for individuals who have met their therapeutic goals in residential mental health treatment or co-occurring rehabilitation services and no longer require 24/7 supervision. Still, they might not yet be ready to live on their own. Transitional living is ideal for individuals who can demonstrate stability and are prepared for more responsibility but can benefit from a structured environment with moderate supervision.
What to Expect in Transitional Living
Residents in our transitional living services reside in well-appointed townhouses on our 400-acre rural campus with a community feel. They must participate in meaningful daily activities such as school, work, and volunteering.
Because developing a routine is a critical part of success in mental health treatment, residents in our transitional living program are also required to participate in weekly activities, including recreational outings, individual counseling, and group therapy. All activities, meals, and other services are scheduled to promote stability.
Residents of Rose Hill Center’s transitional living services can expect:
- 24/7 access to on-site medical assistance and support
- Medication management
- Regular group meetings
- Support meetings, including 12-step programs
- Help with insurance and managing health benefits
- Customized treatment plans with quarterly reviews
Transitional living residents share their homes with one or two others with similar needs and goals. Housemates work together to plan and prepare meals, shop, develop and maintain a household budget, and manage household chores and responsibilities.
Transitional living services help residents develop a sense of independence and learn to become productive members of their community while fostering the development of relationships skills, problem-solving skills, and life skills.
Transitional Living Services are Part of a Full Continuum of Care
Living with the impacts of poor mental health is exhausting and impacts all areas of life, especially when mental health disorders are chronic and pervasive. Individuals often find themselves stuck in a cycle of receiving short-term care that provides temporary symptom relief before things spiral out of control again. These individuals begin to feel hopeless and helpless, which can have dire consequences.
Rose Hill Center is committed to breaking this cycle by providing a full continuum of care utilizing comprehensive, holistic, evidence-based treatment modalities. Our renowned programs and services include:
- Residential rehabilitation services
- Co-occurring rehabilitation services
- Extended residential services
- Transitional living services
- Community support services
- Aftercare planning
A significant benefit of choosing a mental health facility that provides a full continuum of care is that it guides and tracks residents over time, providing a complete picture of their progress and continuity of care. At Rose Hill Center, a low resident-to-staff ratio means that staff genuinely get to know and connect with residents to provide the best treatment for their needs.
Because residents of our extended residential and transitional living services remain on our 400-acre campus with access to resources they are familiar with, they benefit from remaining part of a safe, supportive community that helps foster their continued healing and growth.
