One in twenty American adults lives with a severe mental health disorder such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or schizoaffective disorder. Of those, less than half seek professional mental health treatment. For those that do, residential treatment provides the best support to foster long-term recovery.
Residential mental health treatment gives clients the skills and tools to manage their mental health to live their best lives as independently as possible. However, not everyone is ready to go directly into unsupervised living after completing residential or co-occurring rehabilitation programs. Rose Hill Center offers transitional living services for individuals who no longer need a residential program but are not yet ready for fully independent living. Contact us at 866.367.0220 to learn about the benefits of transitional living services.
What Are Transitional Living Options?
Transitional living for mental health allows individuals who have completed residential treatment to step down to a less restrictive setting before moving home. Through transitional living services, individuals can practice learned skills in a structured, supportive, home-like environment. Transitional living clients share a home with one or two others who are also recovering from mental illness and have similar treatment goals.
At Rose Hill Center, our transitional living homes are part of our 400-acre rural campus. Graduates of our residential program have a seamless transition from one part of our campus to another. The familiarity of remaining on the same campus provides a sense of security, making the transition less daunting.
Transitional living services are highly structured to help foster the development of a daily routine. Thus, activities, meals, and other services are scheduled to promote stability. Residents must participate in scheduled weekly activities, including individual counseling, group therapy, and recreation.
Transitional living services provide:
- 24/7 access to on-site medical assistance and support
- Medication management
- Regular group and support meetings
- Help with insurance and managing health benefits
- Customized treatment plans
- Quarterly reviews of treatment plans
Residents in transitional living have full access to all campus facilities and amenities. With staff support, residents develop a sense of independence and learn to become productive members of their community while fostering the development of essential life skills.

The ultimate goal of mental health treatment is to provide individuals with the skills to live as independently as possible. Transitional living services allow residents to continue to thrive in a therapeutic setting while promoting the move toward higher independence.
The benefits of transitional living services for mental health include:
- 24/7 access to medical and clinical support
- Structure to foster the development of daily routines
- Community of like-minded peers
- Help with insurance and managing benefits
- Family therapy and support
- Development of accountability to self and others
- Safe and stable environment away from negative influences

Residents in transitional living services also have assistance in finding meaningful daily activities such as school, work, or volunteering in the community.
