Transitional living services are a critical part of mental health treatment services for many. Not everyone is ready to go directly back to unsupervised living after completing residential or co-occurring rehabilitation services. At Rose Hill Center, our transitional living services are a recommended step in bridging the gap between residential care and independent living. Our transitional living service is ideal for those ready for a higher level of responsibility but can still benefit from a supportive, structured environment with moderate supervision.
A leader in the field of long-term mental health treatment for 30 years, Rose Hill Center is committed to providing comprehensive psychiatric treatment and residential rehabilitation services to adults 18 and over. Our goal is to assist residents in achieving and maintaining stability to lead meaningful lives at their highest level of independence. What to Expect in a Transitional Living Service
Residents in our transitional living services reside in townhouses on our 400-acre rural campus with a community feel. Our townhouses replicate a more traditional living environment. Residents have one or two roommates and work together to budget expenses, plan meals, and maintain the home. They are also required to participate in meaningful daily activities such as school, work, or volunteering for a minimum of 30 hours weekly.
Developing a routine is such a critical part of success in mental health treatment. Therefore, residents in our transitional living service are also required to participate in scheduled weekly activities, including recreational outings, individual counseling, and group therapy. All activities, meals, and other services occur on a set schedule to promote stability.
Transitional living services provide:
- 24/7 access to on-site medical assistance and support
- Medication management
- Regular group and support meetings
- Help with insurance and managing health benefits
- Customized treatment plans
- Quarterly reviews of treatment plans
Through transitional living services, residents develop a sense of independence and learn to become productive members of their community. Our services are also ideal for fostering the development of daily life skills, relationship skills, and problem-solving skills.
Benefits of a Transitional Living Service for Mental Health
Traditional living services can have a profound impact on successful mental health recovery. When individuals immediately return to their home environment following residential treatment, they may not yet be able to manage their independence. The shock of going from a highly structured, supervised environment to being on their own often results in a relapse, which is emotionally and psychologically damaging.
Benefits of a transitional living service for mental health include:
- Structure to facilitate developing daily routines
- Community of like-minded peers
- On-site support and the opportunity to create new support networks off campus
- Reconnection with family
- Development of accountability to self and others
- Safe and stable environment away from negative influences
Having a private space to call home while learning to become more independent gives residents a sense of freedom and empowerment and helps build self-esteem.
