Completing a residential holistic mental health treatment program is a source of pride and accomplishment. Still, it can also be a bit frightening to think about leaving the safety and security of a highly supportive environment, not to mention leaving behind the friends you made. Though you no longer need the 24-hour supervision of residential treatment, you might not yet be fully prepared for independent living.
Rose Hill Center offers transitional living services in Holly, Michigan, to help ease your transition to fully independent living. This transitional living program is ideal if you are ready for a higher level of responsibility but can still benefit from a supportive, structured environment with moderate supervision. What Are Transitional Living Services?
Transitional living services for mental health allow you to move to a less restrictive setting after completing residential treatment. This option will enable you to practice learned skills in a structured, supportive, home-like environment. Clients in Rose Hill Center’s transitional living services share a home with one or two others who are also recovering from mental illness and have similar needs and goals.
Rose Hill Center’s transitional living homes are part of our 400-acre rural campus. As a graduate of our residential program, you will have a seamless transition from one part of our campus to another. The familiarity of remaining on the same campus provides a sense of security, making the transition less intimidating.
Transitional living services are highly structured to help foster the development of a daily routine. Your activities, meals, and other services are scheduled to promote stability. You will participate in scheduled weekly activities, including individual counseling, group therapy, and recreation.
Our transitional living services provide:
- 24/7 access to on-site medical assistance and support
- Regular group and support meetings
- Help with insurance and managing health benefits
- Customized treatment plans
- Quarterly reviews of treatment plans
- Medication management
You can access all campus facilities and amenities through transitional living services. With staff support, you can develop a sense of independence and learn to become a productive member of the community while fostering the development of essential life skills in a less restrictive setting.
5 Benefits of Transitional Living Services
Transitional living services can have a profound impact on successful mental health recovery. Often, when individuals return to their home environment following residential treatment, they are not yet fully equipped to manage their independence. The shock of going from a highly structured environment with 24-hour supervision to being on their own can prompt relapse, which is emotionally and psychologically damaging.
Transitional living services offer the opportunity to gradually transition to complete independence, reducing the risk of relapse. Five other significant benefits of transitional living services for mental health include:
- On-site support and the opportunity to create new support networks off campus
- Structure to facilitate the development of daily routines
- A safe and stable environment away from negative influences
- Learning to live cohesively with others in a home environment
- The development of accountability to self and others
Having a private space to call home while learning to become more independent gives you a sense of freedom and empowerment and helps build self-esteem. You also have the support of peers who are experiencing the same transition.
