Residential Rehabilitation Program
Achieving stability, restoring self-esteem
The goal of our Residential Rehabilitation Program is to help patients struggling with mental illness regain psychiatric stability. The length of time a patient needs to complete the program depends on the severity of their illness and the progress they make toward recovery. An average length of stay in the residential rehabilitation program is 6 to 12 months.
While at Rose Hill, patients live in private or semi-private rooms in the residential rehabilitation buildings and eat together in the community dining room. This program accommodates 39 patients who learn, work and heal together.
The Residential Rehabilitation Program is built around a multi-stage format that allows staff and patient to work together to create and then follow a customized treatment plan.
Upon arrival, patients begin a 30-day period of intense assessment to determine how well they function in all areas of independent living. At the end of this assessment period, a Master Individual Treatment Plan is developed to identify the specific needs of each patient. This rehabilitation treatment plan is reviewed, updated and revised throughout the residential rehabilitation process. The patient is paired with a case manager, who works closely with them and who oversees all treatment. After the 30-day Orientation Stage, patients proceed through a three-stage process with a progressive agenda including individual goals, responsibilities and privileges.
Work Teams

Central to Rose Hill’s Residential Rehabilitation Program is the belief that meaningful activity in a healthy environment helps re-establish self-esteem and fosters recovery and reintegration into the community. Our structured, simulated work environments teach job readiness skills such as accountability, dependability and teamwork. As a member of one of the four Rose Hill work teams, patients are responsible for housekeeping, kitchen, horticulture and farm animal care. Each team is comprised of staff and patients working together. No previous experience is necessary to fully engage in our work teams.
Academic, Recreational & Creative Options
Rose Hill encourages patients to participate in the leisure activities and recreational opportunities found right on the campus. Patients can explore their interests in art or music, or they can utilize the full-size gym and work-out facility to participate in physical fitness activities that range from aerobics and yoga to basketball, volleyball and other team sports.
Patients interested in expanding their academic education can attend classes at the nearby universities or community colleges, or work towards a GED on the Rose Hill campus. In the state-of-the-art computer lab, patients can take classes to learn new skills. Career planning guidance is also available from our employment training specialists.
Customized Therapy

Based on their Individualized Treatment Plan, patients may participate in one or more of the following therapy options:
- Behavioral Therapy: Behavioral therapy uses reinforcements and extinction techniques to stop undesirable behaviors. By modifying thoughts, feelings and impulsive reactions, behavioral therapy seeks to encourage new positive behaviors. This technique is most often used in conjunction with cognitive therapy.
- Cognitive Therapy: Cognitive therapy is done through interactions and conversations with a therapist to help patients focus on a specific problem. A therapist works with the patient to change thought patterns or perceptions in hopes of altering problem behaviors. This is commonly used along with behavioral therapy.
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT):* This is a therapeutic methodology that is used primarily to treat patients with borderline personality disorder, although it can be applied to other types of psychiatric conditions. DBT combines behavioral techniques, cognitive therapy and acceptance to provide skills which help a patient regulate their emotions, tolerate stress and have meaningful interpersonal relationships.
- Group Therapy: Group therapy uses peer support to facilitate self awareness, insight orientation and problem solving. Facilitated by a case manager, this therapy focuses on developing insights and coping skills, improve communication, and manage anger and impulsivity.
- Mental Health Therapy:* Private therapist avialble by referral for more intense individual, group or family therapy.
* These therapies require additional fees.
